Marco Gazzoni graduated in Computer Science Engineering in 1998 at Politecnico di Torino. In 2005 he obtained the PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino. From 2015 he is Associate professor in Biomedical Engineering at Politecnico di Torino and head of the Laboratory of Engineering of Neuromuscular System and motor rehabilitation (LISiN).

His chief expertise concerns the development of surface EMG techniques (detection and processing) for the non-invasive investigation of the neuromuscular system with applications in basic physiology, ergonomics, rehabilitation, and sport science.

He was involved in the Concerted Action SENIAM (Surface Electromyography for Non Invasive Assessment of Muscles), in the RTD European Projects NEW (Neuromuscular assessment in the Elderly Workers 2001-2004), OASIS (On Asymmetry In Sphincters 2002-2005), CyberManS (Cybernetic manufacturing systems, 2006-2008), and in the ESA Project MESM (Microgravity Effects on Skeletal Muscles).

He is author/coauthor of 65 peer-reviewed papers in international journals, 4 book chapters, and about 80 abstracts for national and international congresses. He has one international patent application concerning textile electrodes for the detection of electrophysiological signals.

He acts as a reviewer for international journals, both engineering and clinical, among which IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems & Rehabilitation Engineering, Medical Engineering & Physics, Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, Journal of Applied Physiology, Journal of Electrophysiology and Kinesiology.

Alberto Botter was born in Biella in 1980. He obtained the M.Sc. degree in Electronic Engineering and the Ph.D. degree Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Torino in 2005 and in 2011 respectively. Since 2006 he is with the Laboratory for Engineering of the Neuromuscular System. Currently, he is Assistant Professor at Politecnico di Torino.

His main expertise are in the areas of signal processing applied to biomedical signals, basic and applied physiology of the neuromuscular system, surface electromyography, and neuromuscular electrical stimulation. He has an extensive experience on the study of muscle response to electrically induced contractions. Recently, his activities have been focused on the integration of high density EMG and ultrasonographic techniques for non-invasive investigation of electrical and mechanical properties of the muscle.

Dr. Botter is author/co-author of about 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals, he is part of the Editorial Board of Frontiers in Exercise Physiology, and serves as a reviewer for several international journals. He has one international patent application concerning a novel technique for simultaneous ultrasonic and electromyographic imaging of the muscle. Dr. Botter accumulated extensive teaching experience by participating as invited lecturer in international courses and by providing his didactic services at Politecnico di Torino.

Alessandra Giangrande obtained the M.Sc. degree cum laude in Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Torino, Torino, Italy, in 2019. She is currently a PhD candidate in Bioengineering and medical and surgical sciences at Politecnico di Torino-Università di Torino and University of Jyvaskylä (Finland).

 Her activity is carried out at the Laboratory for Engineering of the Neuromuscular System (Politecnico di Torino) and at the Faculty of Sport and Health Science (University of Jyväskylä), thank to the supervision of Prof.s Alberto Botter and Harri Piitulainen.

 She is studying the neurophysiological mechanisms related to cortical sensorimotor integration by using new innovative wireless and miniaturized EEG-EMG technologies. The use of these technologies can be useful to detect and quantify different neuro- and electro-physiological processes and understand the complex pathways taking place at different levels of the neuromuscular system.

Talita P. Pinto is graduated in Physical Education and, in December 2012, obtained her M.Sc. in Physical Education, from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. With a doctoral scholarship provided by the Brazilian Research Council (Ciência sem Fronteiras – CAPES), she is a PhD candidate in Electronics Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino, Italy.

Her main expertise concerns the areas of basic and applied physiology of the neuromuscular system, surface electromyography, neuromuscular electrical stimulation and postural control. Her current research activities are focused on the study of the effects of stroke on the neuromuscular system, which are conducted with the support of Taian Vieira and Marco Gazzoni and in collaboration with the IRCCS Ospedale San Camillo.

She authored/co-authored 3 publications in peer-reviewed journals and 9 abstracts in national and international congresses. She also acts as a reviewer for national and international journals. Talita Pinto gained teaching experience as invited professor for the courses “Kinesiology” and “Introduction to biostatistics” at a Brazilian, Federal University, in 2012.
